From Daliconi it is a short sail to the Bay of Islands. An astonishing beautiful expanse of water with numerous small islands and islets. Please choose your anchorage of the day! We anchor in front of a wall where hundreds of large bats fly when the sun sets.
We met our new friends from First Light again and went on a mad dingy caravan caving and snorkling with five other dingies. One of the caves had 30 meters high pillars. I bet it is called Cathedral Cave. We must thank the leaders of this fun possy who knew where to go.
This place is really great. We chose a cloudy day which worked out perfectly. This walking route is one we hadn’t tried yet and we were looking forward to a new little adventure.ย The path is hacked or blown out of the land of red soil which makes Stefan murmur of Africa and Stella of India.
It has empty snail shells and shiney rockhard seed pods like huge buttons a centimetre thick and uniformly round 6 centimetre accross.They clack like maracas. We have never encountered them before.Also, new potatoe sized seed pods some with evidence already of a little sprout. These are a grey green color with little pokeyout bits like a miniature unprickly pear. These have left their skins around having become the darkest brown with cream dots. Enthralling.
However here it is also majorly crowded with what looks like ancient lava humps in dark grey, pocked with ancient bubble holes . The trees seem to grow out of this terrain with great strength and height most have leaves on we presume teak and mahogany are amongst them.
