After 2 two restful weeks in the marina it starts to itch again. Where shall we go? Burton Sails Tauranga truly are a quality company and they keep their promise: the sail is back so lets go! Escaping the marina with the invaluable help of lads in a dingy that stopped us from bumping into our neighbour….
We were to sail north ideally all the way to Opoa Bay of Islands. However this was not to be and unsurprisingly we ended up in picturesque Smoke House Bay area at Great Barrier Island The wind was not how the predictions promised and Stefan motored stoicly through the night to get there. But wow was it worth it!
It rained heavily the following night and we imagined the paths impassable. There was some parts close to the coast that looked very fragile with alarmingly unstable overhangs of shelly, many million years old earth with large trees ready to landslide away at a breath in the right direction. We felt that cruisers and the conservationists who treasure these woods would be loosing some of these paths soon enough.
Lets sail out again because we want to meet David in the Bay of Islands and the wind is more than suffcient! Stella sailed on David’s boat in Italy and Greece in 2019 for a few months while I explored more of Tunesia, also see here
