Now it is time to fullfill my promise to bring a female sailor of the Tanga sailing club to Chumbe Island as a favour for all she did for us. We will go there first then I sail to Dar Es Salaam to pick up my friend at the airport. Chumbe island is a nature reserve and zero emission eco-lodge. The lodge uses only rain water which is collected via a special roof construction and kept in cisterns under the 7 houses and the central building. Electricity comes from solar panels. Next stop Dar Es Salaam slipway, taxi driver Ruben helps to fetch my friend from the airport. After a good sleep we sail to Zanzibar as there is a music festival! We anchor in the port of Stonetown and discover the city. Spices, trade, ancient cultures, this is a beautifull and mysterious place. The music festival is at the seaside in the afternoon and in the old fort at night. After the festival we sail back to Chumbe Island and pick up our guest for the journey back to Tanga.
We leave the ship in Tanga and go to Moshe and Arusha by car. That is an entirely new challenge, driving in Tanzania. After some delay we arrive in one piece in a youth hostel in Moshe which has a beautifull view on the Kilimanjaro. At the foot of the Kilimanjaro we find a local guide who shows us their 100 m high waterfall Our guide invites us to make and drink coffee with them and of cause we buy from his family The next day we drive to Arusha national park at the foot of another big mountain. Back to Tanga, driving at night is not advised… While we return it turns out that my knee is badly infected. The next 2 weeks we must stay in Tanga because a daily visit to the hospital for treatment is necessary. The infection was stopped, thanks to the exellent work of clinic. With that under control we sail to Pemba Island Fungu gap for fishing and a quiet anchorage
